Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about tyre retreading, safety, and our process.
Got Questions?
Tyre retreading is a safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly process where a worn tyre's tread is replaced with a new one. It involves inspecting the old tyre casing, buffing away the remaining old tread, and applying a new layer of premium rubber which is then vulcanized to the casing. This extends the life of the tyre at a fraction of the cost of a new one.
Absolutely. Modern retreading processes are highly advanced. When done by authorized professionals like Haryana Tyre Retread (a franchisee of ELGI Rubber Co. Ltd), the structural integrity and safety standards are practically identical to those of new tyres. In fact, commercial airlines, school buses, and military vehicles regularly use retreaded tyres due to their proven safety and reliability.
Retreading is highly sustainable. Manufacturing a new truck tyre requires approximately 22 gallons of oil, whereas retreading takes only about 7 gallons. By reusing the tyre casing, it significantly reduces landfill waste, conserves raw materials like natural rubber and petroleum, and dramatically lowers carbon emissions.
With proper maintenance, correct air pressure, and safe driving habits, a high-quality retread tyre can deliver the exact same mileage and lifespan as a brand new tyre. The key lies in the structural quality of the original casing and the precision of the advanced retreading processes we utilize.
While retreading is most commonly associated with commercial vehicles like heavy trucks, trailers, dumpers, and buses—due to their heavy usage and the significant cost savings involved—retreaded tyres are also fully capable and safe for passenger cars, off-road vehicles, and specialized industrial equipment.
